I've just been given the oppportunity of a lifetime. this is just what a lonely old bachelor like me needs to turn his life around.Pity I've got nobody to share it with. I pack my bags and then I close up my apartment and then I leave for the docking yard. Down at the docking yard I meet the guy that gave me the opportunity and throw my bags on board. It takes us thirty minutes for us to load up the rest of the boat and then we set off on our journey. It takes us exactly three days to get to Antartica. Then we were assinged an area and we get dropped of at a base. I wait there for a day then I haed off to the other bases. We meet up then we go for a walk up to the top of a mountain. As we are almost up to the top the earth opens up and seems to swallow the other guys. Upon closer inspection I relise that it was a crevass hidden by snow. I sit down for a while and try and get my head around what just happened. Then after I had got my head around it I walk up to the top of the mountain and try to see my base. It was only then that I relised that I was out of my energy.I was wading my way through thigh deep snow.Miles away from my base but luckily it's all down hill. I was almost out of energy. Death was grabbing me and trying to pull me down to it. I push on. I can finally see my base. But I cannot make it. I collapse down onto my knees. Suddenly in front of me I see it a small penguin. I reach out to it. Scared, it dives onto it's belly and it's gone. Sliding down the mountain it weaves a path ,dividing the snow.I walk forward following the penguin's path. At first it feels as though I'm floating but it qiukly comes to and end. My back feels a burst of cold and I relise I am sliding down the mountain side. I could have sworn I was going one hundred miles per hour. I'm freezing and hungry and tired but I'm having the time of my life. Slowly slipping and sliding I come to a halt ten metres from base. I got up and went into the base to get the pengiun that saved my life some food. In the kitchen I look out the window and see the penguin run and dive into the ocean. There was no splash, there was no sound and there was no penguin. It was gone!!That night I lay awake thinking and remembering the way that it just dissappeared. Was it a dream? Or was it just my brain's way of telling me how to survive? In the morning I go outside and and look up at the mountain and going all the way down is the penguins slide track.
